MongoliAid International Inc to improve well-being of Mongolian Scouts
A dining hall and staff accommodation buildings have already been built at the site. Construction of the well will begin in March 2010, with a completion date in November 2010. The project will cost $7700 USD.
The Association has nearly 10 000 young members and was established in 1992. Many other young people also take part in organised Scouting activities in Mongolia. The organisation is particularly well placed to improve the life skills and self-confidence of rural children.
The well will also benefit the local community. It will reduce the distance travelled by local families to fetch water for domestic and livestock requirements, and will assist the Mongolian government in its poverty eradication plan by upgrading the ratio of clean groundwater sources to the normal water provision grid.
MongoliAid was approached for assistance by Bayarjargal Damdindagva, the Secretary General of the Association. We are very happy that our humble new organisation will represent Australia in this exciting endeavour.
MongoliAid will also begin the construction of the first wells in the world named after Beatles John, Paul, George and Ringo in 2011, in the Gobi province of Bayankhongor.
The pictures accompanying this release show the fledgling camp site, together with young MongoliAiders Emily and Georgia toasting our good news with glasses of fresh water.
