MongoliAid shipping day 2010 … these are the great days!

November 24th, 2010

On Monday 22 November 2010, Cairns based charity MongoliAid International Inc. sent 5065 blankets and other items of a medical nature, on their way to Mongolia from Bulimba in Brisbane. Wridgways Removalists once again kindly donated their expertise and resources, absorbing as much of the Brisbane-related costs as possible. A BIG thank you to Maureen Kelly, the Wridgways Export Manager for her nous and empathy to the cause, and to Jim McKendrick, Nathan Cronin and Luke McNicol who bravely tackled the task of loading 260 bags of blankets, 260 boxes of blankets, 40 boxes of medical journals and textbooks, and 50 pairs of crutches and walking aids. The shipment brings the total number of blankets sent to Mongolia since 2004 to 17500.

Our blankets will be placed into school dormitories and hospitals across the South Gobi province of Mongolia next year. The medical journals and books will be handed over to the librarian at the University of Medicine at Ulaan Baatar.

… and yes, MongoliAid is still collecting blankets!

October 18th, 2010

A BIG thank you to Brian Jiggins, Nora McCullagh, Darrin and Kaylene Filewood, and to Billy and Juanita Filewood for taking time out on a fine Sunday morning in Brisbane (a rarity of late) to help unload the shipping container that arrived from Cairns, and for helping re-organise other donations from around Australia.

MongoliAid on the move … sending blankets to Brisbane 10/10/10

October 10th, 2010

Today we finished packing our container with 2200 blankets and bedspreads, medical journals and textbooks, crutches and other medical supplies, for transport to the main MongoliAid storage depot in Brisbane. Next month we will ship these items and over 2800 other blankets.

By the way we also raised $550 on Friday night simply by throwing bowling balls down lanes – the funds to be applied towards future water projects!
