A second MongoliAid water project in the Gobi is announced!

February 1st, 2011

MongoliAid is proud to announce its sponsorship of a second water project in the Gobi Desert. Last month surveyors visited Bayangovi soum (village) in Bayankhongor aimag (province), where they made measurements for the plans for the John Lennon-Paul McCartney Water Project. That project could be completed by September this year. It will involve a Gobi first pipeline that delivers clean water from a deep well into the heart of a village with 1800 residents.

Today, MongoliAid informed the representatives of Tsetsii Nutag NGO that we would also support their project to build an artesian well at Tsogt-Tsetsii soum in the South Gobi aimag. Commencing immediately, MongoliAid will send $5000 so that prospecting work can begin. The project will cost $110 000 to complete, hence MongoliAid will also act an as advocate for the NGO, helping the NGO to find other project partners. MongoliAid will stand beside the NGO until the job is completed. At the moment Tsogt-Tsetsii residents must pay for untested and non-purified water from two privately owned wells. This new project will involve the regular testing and treatment of water retrieved from deep below the Gobi sands, and include a water cistern truck that will deliver water to the more remote residents of the district. It will provide clean water to 8000 people.

The beginning of Fab business …

In early January, Bodio from the Gobi Revival Fund NGO welcomed 6 engineers and surveyors to Bayangovi soum in Bayankhongor aimag, so that they could make and record measurements for the technical drawings that will one day this year see the commissioning of the John Lennon-Paul McCartney Water Project.
